Before You Go

Mission: Short Treks
Location: Ready Room, Starfleet One
Timeline: 0000-00-63, 19:40

Captain Willian Targaryen stepped into his Ready Room aboard Starfleet One with Captain Bishop and Commander Haynes in tow. His Executive Officer and the Former Chief of Security would be leading this mission to the surface and, personally, he had concerns. Not in their ability, far from it, but he had concerns about the mission itself. There was more to the planet Svian than met the eye and he could feel it.

But, he was more concerned about Lieutenant Zehoi. Her outburst on the Bridge had given him pause, but not enough to pull her from the mission itself. Plus, not long ago, he'd had two separate conversations that sounded alerts about the Orion woman. Commander Ash had so much as called out on it, but her vehement defense had not quelled the former Admiral's views.

He tapped a control on his desk and brought up the records from Cold Station 12. This time it wasn't Svian, but rather Lieutenant Zehoi who appeared.

"I'm not going to beat around the bush. Two people have questioned her loyalty to me today and Commander Ash's questioning is still ringing. I wanted your impressions," the Captain informed.

"I think she is a loose canon, but no different than most us. Given the unique situation we are all facing. Being stuck in this century. With that said, she is in a compromising situation. Her people are the dominating species in this area, and allying with us, will alienate her from her people. It's a tough position for her to be in. With that said, we need her." Jasmine said, in a clear tone. She would prefer to keep her on the ship, but the sadly realty was. They needed her.

Willian nodded, "Not a false statement, Commander. The Orions are the leaders of this Emerald Chain and, as far as we can tell, it's the return of the Orion Syndicate from our era to the nth degree. We recovered her from Cold Station 12. All evidence suggests that they did not know we were coming - Hell if they did they really are horrible at springing traps - but I'm also fearful this was a slow burn." He sighed, looking at the holographic replica of the Engineer. "The crew is scattered and in pieces compared to what we normally have," he agreed again, "we can't afford not to use her."

Jasmine was curious what Captain Bishop was going to say. So far the good captain had remained silent. She wondered if he was going to agree with assessment and possibly add on to it. Or if he was going to give another theory to mental well being, and capability with the mission at hand.

Willian was curious what his First Officer thought of the alien Engineer.

"There is another matter," Willian said pressing a control on the holoPADD's interface. "I have been running a series of simulations since we got here looking at the incident that brought us here and to potentially find a method to return us to our native timeline. I won't deny if Galatea were fully operational this may've gone a bit better, her mind is a lot sharper than mine, but I have muddled along through the collected knowledge of the Federation on time travel and the various methodologies available to accomplish it. So far every simulation fails."

He engaged the simulations for them, the holographic replica of the vessel playing out each of the scenarios. The usage of red matter to form an artificial black hole, manipulating a wormhole, and creating a temporal vortex were the first examples to fail miserably. The Bajoran Orb of Time, time crystals, and the Guardian of Forever were the next options and they had the same outcomes as their predecessors. The slingshot effect had the Enterprise burn up each time and realigning the Deflector Dish to a Chronometric Dish led to catastrophic explosions. No matter which effort they tried, the ship was destroyed.

"So far I'm at a loss to explain it."

"That's beyond my level of expertise. Have you fired up that old AI program we had on board?" Jasmine asked, wondering what happened to it. The Enterprise was almost back to full strength, well mostly. So why was it offline. Maybe the AI would have better luck than the computer did. Which seemed silly, since she thought of the AI and the computer as the same thing. But the AI could think about creative solutions, were the computer relied on facts.

"I wish I could," Willian answered, "Commander Ash and Commander Hawkins have been working on her matrix trying to get her restored but, so far, she has not been responding to our efforts. I really can't explain it. It makes little sense because her matrix should be functional, for some reason Galatea just isn't cooperating with our efforts. It is possible that our transition to this time may have overwhelmed her circuits in a manner we can't quite fathom."

"So we rely on ourselves and our training and experience." Bishop replied. "what's the problem?"

Jasmine wanted to speak out, but she knew better. Instead she just grinned as she looked over to Captain Bishop. "We will adapt, we are Starfleet after all." She said, trying to rally herself and him up for the daunting mission ahead of them.

"Then I leave this mission in your capable hands. Captain Bishop is in operational control of the mission while Commander Haynes will serve as his XO. Get that Admiral safely aboard. That is your only priority. Dismissed," he said with finality, not expressing his own concerns of whether this mission could be pulled off.
