Sickbay

Jasmine walked into the medical facility. It was not to long ago, that she was in this room getting her leg repaired by the good doctor. During the trip to the 32nd century, she was injured while trying to escape in the escape pod. Since that event, she had returned to work. This was a standard and routine follow up. She immediately looked around sickbay, for the good doctor.

Cyrus wasn't to be seen at first, but he could be heard, grumping just a little bit. "Confound it, you get back here!" having gone down under his desk to retrieve his favorite pencil. On top of his desk was a drawing he had been working on. The drawing that could be seen was the beginning of a sketch of a tree. There was also a cup of tea not too far from it. There was also some granulated sugar that seemed to have been spilled and a teaspoon perched precariously on the small plate the teacup was seated on.

"You little rascal, why do you insist on going on an adventure." Cyrus could be heard muttering. "Maybe I need to put a leash on you."

Cyrus not having noticed that he had company, finally reached the run away pencil.

"Is this a bad time?" Jasmine asked, as she watched the good doctor talking to what a appeared to be a little pencil. She was intrigued what the antics were all about. A small part of her wanted to chuckle, but she refrained, out of professional courtesy.

Marner was just about clear from beneath his desk and was startled when he heard Jasmine's voice so much that his hit his head on the edge. "Ow, son of a-" he managed to not say a curse word in front of her. With a rueful smile he regained his feet rubbing his head and still having his pencil in his hand. "I hope you didn't hear my talking to-" and realizing there was an amused twinkle in her eyes, he laughed. "Go right ahead and laugh, it is part of good medicine." he quipped.

Jasmine gave him a cold hearted stare, Vulcan like in nature. "I'll take your word for it, Doctor." She said trying to remain neutral. Deep down though, she thought it was very sweet. A lot of pet owners, talk to their animals.

Cyrus nodded, "After all I am a doctor, so I would know." he placed the pencil in a safe spot, and closed up his sketch book. "Now what can I do for you, Commander?" motioning towards another seat that was in there, while he took his own. He, noticing that his cup was just a bit too close to the edge nudged it away from the edge and deftly caught the spoon that dropped from the plate. "My apologies for the mess." he remarked.

Jasmine walked over to the bed. She could feel the tenderness in her leg still. Even though the wound was mostly healed. She needed to allow it time to group from the trauma that was caused. "I would like you to re examine my leg, I am still feeling soreness in my hamstring area." She said, as she started to massage her hamstring as she hopped up on the bio bed.

"Here now lets take a look." having set aside his other things and picking up a medical tricorder. "A bit of a stiffness? Have you been doing your stretching exercises?" He scanned the area then putting the tricorder down, he also ran his hands along the affected area as well. Tricorders are useful but also at times there needed to be a hands on examination. "The muscle seems to be healing nicely. Feels a bit knotted there as well."

"I give them a good five minutes." Jasmine said, feeling him touch her hamstring. It was vey sensitive around the knotted areas. She knew she should dedicate more time to her recovery, but the Enterprise was short staffed, and needed her assistance.

"Jasmine, you do need to allow yourself time to heal, as in, do your stretching exercises. And massage the muscles as well." Cyrus giving a small smile with some humor added. He gently kneaded the muscles just a bit more, utilizing a pressure point as well to allow them to release the tension. "I know we're definitely running with a small crew, but we'll manage."

"Are you ordering me to relax, Doctor?" Jasmine asked, a little confused. She knew the doctor's first priority was to their patients. But they were in uncharted waters, and they needed everyone they could get. She did not have time to relax.

Cyrus looked up at Jasmine, his fingers still kneading the muscles. "You need to take the time to do some physiotherapy in order to keep your muscles from stiffening up, even it it is fifteen minutes. I do know how busy you are and the rest of us are. Just saying, give your muscles a coffee break from time to time." flashing a smile. "It would do you a world of good."

"Coffee does sound nice, Doc." Jasmine said, thinking to herself that 15 minutes sounds reasonable. She expected the doctor to say something like 2 to 4 hours a day. Most of the doctors she knew, were always trying to push recovery first before work. They were not in place, were they could afford that. She was glad this doctor was able to see the bigger picture.

Finishing up his massaging, Cyrus moved his hands from her leg. "Coffee does indeed sound really good. I need to remember to give myself a break as well. Wouldn't do for a Doctor to be found lying on the floor twitching due to no break." a twinkle in his eyes. "Shall we?"

Jasmine was use to being busy constantly. She had worked for the president up to a few days ago. Now she had a lot of free time, despite the ship being in disrepair. She wanted to feel useful, and so she was pushing herself to hard. She knew deep down the doctor was right, and the doctor was compromising. A cup of a coffee was a reasonable compromise. So with a grin she said. "Sure." Jasmine said, as she slid down slowly off the bed. Getting ready to leave the room.

Jasmine popped off the bio bed, and applied slight pressure to the leg. The sensation of pain quickly shot through her leg. She ignored it, as she reached for the edge of the bed to balance herself. It did not take them long to arrive in the mess hall.

Mess Hall

"I really could use a cup." Jasmine said, as she walked over to the replicator. She was doing her best to avoid the slight pain she felt. She was pushing her way through the annoyance. She knew she needed to keep on practicing if she was going to make a speedy recovery.

"You keep on making that face, I am going to have to prescribe a much longer massage." Cyrus making a little bit of a tease but also having a serious nature to it as well. "Coffee does sound good though. And all that you do, the movement, I have noticed that those who work in engineering do a lot of stretching. So a massage as part of the therapy is highly recommended." he waited until Jasmine got her coffee before he got his. Keenly interested in seeing how she drank her coffee.

"Sounds like a distraction, from carrying out my primary duties Doc!" Jasmine said, with a teasing grin on her face. She was trying to down play with the accident. She knew the doc was right, but she did not feel right about playing injured when others were picking up her slack. She would prefer to push through the pain and get the work done.

"Does that mean you are actually interested in that part of therapy? Well once in awhile one does need a distraction from the ongoing duties in order to freshen up the mind. Just stepping away briefly, I have heard helps a problem get solved or a new solution presents itself." giving return grin. "So your coffee, do you drink it black or with a little bit of milk or sugar in it?" Cyrus deciding to ask that directly.

"Milk and sugar will be fine. And nice spin on my words, you are a crafty one." Jasmine said with a grin. She went on to explain. "My on going duties are in part the problem too I suppose. We don't belong here, yet most of the crew has accepted our fate without evening try to find a way home. I'm suppose to be with the president. Not working in Starfleet."

"Well sad to say I've been just trying to get through one day to the next. If there is a way home that would be a rather helpful thing. The President you are referring to, is it the one from our past or the one that is in this current future?" Marner was wondering for he's been trying to keep track of things in this future an maybe thinking of the past as well.

"My President is President Gruzy. We're not from this time period. Why am I the only one that sees that?" Jasmine asked. Everyone in her opinion had lost their mind. They should be focusing on going home.

"Jasmine, I asked that question as I am just trying to get up to speed on who is where and what not." Cyrus not making any effort to use any ranks at this moment. "At this moment, has any possible way for us to be going back to our proper time been found? So far there hasn't been any. Right now we have other things that we can control, hopefully. We get bounced into different situations so we take care of what is in front of us, then go from there. Like going from dot to dot. Now what will happen if we get back to what would be our own time. Will what we have experienced be wiped away from our minds? Would my efforts to help others disappear, and this includes you? What little good I have been able to do, it may end up being all for nothing. If we don't remember what we've done in this future time."

"I see the point you are trying to make, but our actions can have universal ramifications. We are not up to speed with the politics of this time period, nor should we be. We do not belong here." Jasmine said, ignoring the fact that the doctor just referred to her by name. She did not mind, it made it feel more personal but in a good way. "I know it's in our nature to want to help, but if history teaches us anything. Good intentions pave the way for bad choices. This is not a wise choice. We have no way of knowing how our involvement will impact this time period. We should be focusing on minimizing our involvement. Before you bring up your counter point, let me finish with saying this, I would feel different, if we belonged here." Jasmine said to Cyrus, hoping he was willing to hear her perspective.

"I can see what you talking about. Its like the saying of the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I don't like the feeling of ambiguity, and I am trying to make sense of it all. And to me there is not a lot of sense going on. However, we are now facing results of choices, and it is a lot like being on a ship on a rather stormy sea." Cyrus remarked.

"If I can be frank, what would you suggest that I do?" Jasmine asked. It sounded like the doctor wanted her to accept this moment in time as reality. She was still holding out help, they would be leaving any day now. She feared this would be her response, and if it was. She would tend to it.

"Well to use an analogy, when in a storm on a ship that is being bucked around and one doesn't know which way is up or down. Its best to focus on the here and now meaning.." Cyrus paused for a moment, to gather his thoughts. "The here and now as in, you and I are friends or hopefully we are. This I hope, that never changes. Whether we are in the wrong time, wrong place. Or right time or right place. This, this little bubble of our time right here right now, may be something that needs to be focused on. When I do surgery and have done surgery I feel like I am in my own time bubble, with waiting and hoping that what I did, would work and still there is the uncertainty, much like right now. I think the only way I am not going insane is, those who I've made some sort of connection with. Hopefully I am making some sense right now."

Jasmine never realized how deep the good doctor could be. She totally mis-read him. That was a wonderful surprise. She wondered though, could she simply let it go and 'go with the flow'? Even though he made sense, Jasmine was still grounded in the fact, the longer they stayed, the longer their visit with the DTI will be. They could do some serious damage the longer they stayed in this time period. "I want to focus on minimizing our impact, not sure if you feel the same or not. Certainly, most of the crew don't feel that way. Am I curious about this time, and curious about our past. Yes of course, but it would be wrong to review that information. " Jasmine pointed out to him. She wanted to meet him halfway, but sadly she did not see how she could do that in this scenario. She did appreciate the effort the good doctor was making.

Cyrus nodded, "I can see your point as well. How about this, we can call ourselves friends and weather whatever storm that hits us? How does that sound to you? " his answer was short, maybe too simple but at the moment he was clinging on to this like a raft in the middle of a chaotic time or storm.

"Friends?" Jasmine said, as she processed that for a moment. Was it possible to be friends with the opposite sex. She was not sure, but it would be interesting to find out. She was very fond of Ryan. But she liked the idea of being friends with Cyrus. She simply nodded as she said. "I would like that, Doctor."

Cyrus gave a smile, "Good." he simply said. His eyes paused on the time piece on the wall, and gave a bit of a sigh. "Well, looks like my coffee break is over so time for me to get back to work. Just make certain you take your breaks as well." he rose from the chair, "I'll be seeing you sometime to check up on your progress." he turned and left, stopping for a moment to give a wave, then disappeared from view.

"Right, breaks." Jasmine said, trying to please him. Deep down though, she knew that would not very easy for her to do. To much was on the line. And she needed to be ready to assist the crew. She was going to help them get home, even if they were not ready to go home. They did not belong in this century.
