Mission:
Flashpoint
Location: Sickbay, U.S.S. Enterprise
Timeline: 3190-11-05, 17:00
S'reessa was in sickbay. The captain was due for a physical. She needed to examine all the crew to establish a baseline norm. She would have examined him first but he had been busy. Totally understandable. The captain is probably the busiest of all the crew on the ship but he had managed to get time to come in and be examined.
Wilkan stepped into the circular layout of Sickbay, his imposing frame instantly drawing the quiet focus of the room. His dark eyes swept across the radial arrangement of biobeds before locking onto S'reessa and he walked with deliberate, heavy-set discipline, moving past the central nurse's station toward the designated examination area. His El-Aurian "Listening" picked up the hum of the overhead diagnostic sensors and the steady, rhythmic pulse of the sensors running background scans.
"Doctor," Wilkan acknowledged, his deep voice carrying a quiet weight that settled smoothly over the room. He didn't offer a polite excuse for his late arrival, nor did he hesitate. Instead, he climbed directly onto one of the primary biobeds, sitting with exceptional posture as he folded his broad hands in his lap. "I believe you required my baseline parameters before we hit full operational tempo. Proceed when ready. I'm yours to examine."
"Fantastic Captain. Thank you for taking the time to come see me. I know you're busy but this si important. So lay back on the bio bed and we shall begin. "
Wilkan didn't move to lie back immediately, instead he listened to the quiet of the Sickbay and the ship as a whole. It was amazing that somewhere as charged as Sickbay was so relaxed, the background frequency of the six radially arranged biobeds in the main ward giving off the only charge in the room. It was a testament to their Doctor.
With a slow, measured breath, Wilkan reclined flat against the orthopedically designed primary biobed. The internal sensors beneath the mattress immediately engaged, silent diagnostic sweeps initializing to transmit his real-time vitals and complex hybrid physiological metrics directly to the biofunction monitors overhead. He remained entirely motionless, his broad hands resting flat over his abdomen, his frame aligned in rigid, absolute stillness.
"You'll find my baseline somewhat non-standard, Doctor," Wilkan explained softly. "Hybrid El-Aurian, Human, and Lanthanite cellular biology, combined with a nine-hundred-year medical history. Take whatever readings you need."
"Ok. That's quite a combo. How did that come about?" she was quite curious.
"Standard biology, Doctor," Wilkan answered dryly, "My father was El-Aurian, my mother a Human-Lanthanite hybrid. Nature did the rest, and genetics saw fit to grant me an extraordinary longevity to endure centuries of medical examinations." He tilted his head slightly toward S'reessa, his expression unreadable as a subtle, dry irony settled beneath his calm cadence. "Unless you were asking for a lecture on 23rd Century genetics, in which case I suggest we stick to the Tricorder."
"No thanks. No need for a lecture." she passed a tricorder over him to get baseline readings. "Ok so I'm going to draw some blood. So how unique is your blood type? I hope we never have to us it but it pays to be prepared."
"Virtually non-existent in modern medical databases, Doctor," Wilkan answered softly, remaining motionless on the primary biobed. "Because of my hybrid heritage, my blood carries unique cellular repair protocols and unusual protein structures. Standard synthetic plasma substitutes will suffice for minor volume loss, but if I require a direct, full-spectrum transfusion, the replicator will need to synthesize a customized matrix based on the baseline profile on file."
"I also recommend storing a localized reserve in Sickbay's stasis vault," Wilkan added, his tone practical. "In a crisis, waiting for a replicator to synthesize a multi-hybrid blood profile is an unnecessary variable. Is there anything else you require for your baseline, S'reessa?"
"I agree captain. Would you like to donate some now or should I just replicate it? Other than that, no. I think I have what I need. Appreciate you coming down here captain."
Wilkan waited in calm, unmoving silence as the small diagnostic chime confirmed the blood sample draw had completed. He didn't shift his posture, remaining reclined flat against the primary biobed with his hands resting over his abdomen, allowing his El-Aurian "Listening" to absorb the soft, reassuring hum of Sickbay's monitoring arrays.
Once S'reessa gave her final acknowledgment and cleared him, Wilkan smoothly sat up, swinging his heavy boots over the edge of the frame with measured, deliberate alignment. He stood to his full six-foot-two height, pausing briefly to smooth the front of his uniform tunic.
"Anything else, Doctor?" Wilkan asked after having slid off the table.
"No thank you captain. That is all!"
Wilkan offered a single, measured nod of affirmation.
"Replicate the reserve and log it into the stasis vault, Doctor," Wilkan instructed quietly, his deep voice carrying an unyielding clinical certainty. "There is no need to deplete current cellular volume when the replicator matrix can accurately mirror the profile on file."
Without another word, the Captain turned on his heel, his heavy-set stride carrying him out of Sickbay and back toward the arterial corridors of the ship.
